The South African Sanitation Enterprise Programme (SASTEP) and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) cordially invites you to the SANS 30500 Awareness Workshop. As the coordinator of the national system of innovation (NSI) around emerging and innovative sanitation technologies in South Africa, SASTEP actively strives to create awareness and to foster an enabling environment that aids with the adoption of appropriate and innovative sanitation technologies.
Non-sewered sanitation systems (NSSS) offers an opportunity to close the sanitation gap between the sanitation solutions that is currently being deployed in the suburban and peri-urban, and rural areas, especially given the financial and budgetary constraints and large capital investment required to provided sewer connection to every home. The development of a standard by ISO for non-sewered sanitation systems (NSSS), is not only timeous but provides an opportunity for the development of NSSS technologies that can assist with closing the sanitation gap. The SANS 30500 standard provides general safety and performance requirements for product design & performance testing of prefabricated integrated treatment units that are not attached to a network sewer or drainage system.
