WORLD TOILET DAY – LAUNCH OF CLEAR TOILET AT TSHOLETSEGA PRIMARY SCHOOL
World Toilet Day (WTD) is celebrated annually on 19 November as a call to “encourage behavioral change and the implementation of policies to increase access to sanitation among the poor, along with a call to end the practice of open-air defecation, which it deemed “extremely harmful” to public health” (http://sdg.iisd.org/events/world-toilet-day-2020/).
WTD is celebrated to raise awareness on issues of lack of proper sanitation and also to encourage efforts on reaching the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 6. In 2015, the UN adopted 17 sustainable development goals which provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future (UN 2015). SDG6 aims to “ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Therefore WTD is celebrated to raise awareness to the fact that there are still about 2.5 billion people around the world that lack proper sanitation.
